Harana: Serenading a Filipina Woman

Uso pa ba ang harana? I know there is no need for us to ask this question. We are now living in a modern world and most people would say that harana is out of date or 'baduy'. Harana was our traditional form of courtship wherein man serenade woman underneath her window at night. This long-forgotten tradition of courtship is no longer exist even in rural areas and small town of our country.

Today, many of Filipina women won't deny that they find it romantic when a guy serenade them. They find it sweet and romantic than love quotes in text messages and emails of today's generation. If women like it, why harana died and forgotten by many modern Filipinos?

Even before the rise of many technologies, harana started to fade and die. After the Spanish Era in the Philippines, courtship is mostly done without serenading. Although a man has to visit the girl's family and formally introduce himself to the parents of the girl, he can do this without serenading the woman. After a years when technology evolved and when technology made it easier to court and express feelings to a woman, it totally killed this tradition. Now, that the old harana tradition is dead and forgotten, how can we serenade Filipina during this modern times?

Yes Harana is dead and forgotten, but the passion of Filipino in expressing his love is unalterable. The spirit of harana can be done today in a modern form. Sometimes harana is done by live band or radio playing requested songs that is dedicated for a certain woman, sometimes it is done by serenading a woman through videoke machine in front of some friends, and sometimes by serenading a woman through a modern technology (it might be cellphone or internet). It is changed but it didn't lose its purpose to make the woman feels that she's the most beautiful girl in this world. It is really different from old fashioned harana but it never fails to impress the woman. That's how to serenade a Filipina woman... the harana of modern times.

Why Filipinos are Happy People

Philippines is not a rich country even it is rich with natural resources. Some of the roads on its highway are filled with pot holes, streets are congested, public vehicles such as jeepney are everywhere, street children roaming around the streets, beggars exploring garbage bins, and poor families struggling to survive under the bridge. The whole thing gives the impression that this country is not rich and people are poor. But, why Filipinos are happy people?

I am a Filipino and I know why we are happy. The following are some of the reasons why we Filipinos are happy people:

1. We are happy because of our faith.
We look to the brighter side of life even though there are so many problems around us. We believe in God, We believe that He will always guide and find the way for us. That's the characteristic of our faith. Most of the Filipino people are dependent to God. That trait makes us a positive thinkers.

2. Cheerfulness is part of our culture.
We are innately happy people. A typhoon victims wave and smile while a newscaster is reporting in front of a camera. So many children don't even have toys, but they're happy making games with a cans, chalk, rocks, slippers, and anything else they find. In spite of having difficulties we tend to smile and be happy. That's the nature of Filipino people.

3. We are satisfied of what we have.
Although part of human nature to want more, we Filipinos, are carefree people. Despite of having a small and not enough income, most Filipinos are happy of having a job, having a meals on the table, and having a family around them.

This kind of characteristic is often times criticized by many Filipinos abroad to be a characteristic of a lazy Pinoy, being contented of having a few and not wanting to have more. This characteristic is seldom to be seen from Filipinos abroad. Most OFW are the kind of Filipinos who have dreams and ambitions in life.

4. We love celebrations.
We love to celebrate little success in life, we love to celebrate family, we love to celebrate love, We love to celebrate birthday, wedding anniversary, baptism and even death anniversary. We celebrate any special moment in life by just throwing off small parties or by eating out in fast food centers no matter how small it is.

5. Filipinos are happy-go-lucky people.
Despite all the hardships, we cherish every moment in life. We love to party, drink, eat, and go to other places. Some even play one-day millionaires, spending everything and saving nothing. Pretending to be what they are not.

6. Most Filipinos are not aware of national issues.
Some considered it as a state of blissful ignorance. Some Filipino do not care about national issues, even spent years tolerating the abuses of our corrupt presidents, the abuse of our corrupt government officials and political clan. Even today, if you happen to see status of teenagers on Facebook and other social networking sites, it is more about love rather than political and national issues. This reason might not true to some Filipino but we cannot deny that this reason exist. It exist because in can be seen in the true picture of our life.

Above are some of the reasons why Filipinos are happy people. As a Filipino myself, I know Filipinos has so many reasons to be happy because that's what we are. We always find ways to smile in spite of the hardship that we have. Some reasons might not be pleasing for everyone. But, there is nothing wrong to be happy. There are things in life that money could not buy, one of which is happiness. No amount of money can buy true peace and true happiness. Stay happy! (*_^)

How to Recover Old Websites

Here are some easy ways to recover old website.

Check/Recover some pages through the WayBack Machine.
Archive.org or mostly known as wayback machine, keeps a running record of more than 150 billion web pages on the Internet, since 1996. Just enter the url you are looking for, and the Internet Archive will display any stored pages it has for that address.

You can use the wayback machine to copy some pages of your old site or grab some of its images. This process is not really advisable, because doing it manually is a lot of pain. You can only use this method if you want only to recover some pages of your old site.

Common Reasons Why Computer Freezes

When your  computer freezing randomly and you do not know why, you are in the right page to search for the right solutions. When your computer become unresponsive and some of its applications hang and unable to respond to any commands, you need to identify the different possible causes in order to fix the problem. Fixing computer which freezes randomly you must first attempt to identify the source of the problem, and troubleshoot the problem accordingly.

Most Common Reasons Why Computer Freezes and its Solution

1. Hard disk space is not enough.
If the drive C or the system drive has not enough disk space for virtual memory, some applications won't run smoothly and it will also cause the computer freezing problem.

Solution:  Delete or transfer the unnecessary files of your drive C. These includes the files of your desktop, My Documents folder and downloads. You can also increase the system drive by re-partitioning your hard drive. You can do this by partitioning hard drive without formatting

2. Not enough RAM.
Everything in our computer uses RAM. All running programs load into RAM and the processor runs them from there. So the more RAM your computer has, the faster and more efficiently it will run, but if you are running  more programs with limited RAM, the slower your computer will be.

Solution: Install more RAM to boost up your computer's performance and avoid computer freezing problem.

3. Virus infection.
Malware infection and virus infection are the common reasons why computer freezes. Viruses can delete some of the DLL files and other initialization files that needed and crucial to the operating system. This can cause errors that resulted to computer freezing problem. Malwares/spywares can also run hidden programs that can consume the processor's activity and can also affects the computer performance.

Solution: If you don't have an antivirus or antispyware tools on your system, purchase and install one; otherwise, make sure that you're running the latest version of the application. Run a full system scan to check for problems and remove any potential threats, and be sure to repeat this process regularly to prevent future issues. I recommend malwarebytes to remove malware infection.

Blue Screen Problem:Causes and Its Solutions

When computer encountered a blue screen error and has been shutting itself down after saying 'System has recovered from a serious error' there are three reasons why this is happening.

Reasons:
1. This appears to be a hardware issue, caused perhaps by overheating or maybe faulty RAM.

2. The new installed hardware is failing because the necessary driver for that hardware might not be installed, or the driver might be incompatible or corrupted.

3. Virus and spyware problem.

Solutions:
For Problem #1Make sure to check the CPU fan and clean the RAM by rubbing an eraser to the memory contacts.
For Problem #2: Disconnect the device and please contact the device manufacturer to obtain updated drivers for the device or to learn about any known hardware issues so that you can reinstall the device.
For Problem #3:
  1. Click "Start" and then "Run" to run msconfig and disable all the startup programs. Then restart your computer.
  2. Download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, install, update and scan the system.

I hope this will help. Please leave a comment if you have encountered any problem about the given solutions.

How to Use Home Internet While At Work

There are so many public proxies nowadays. Sometimes we used these proxy sites or proxy servers to  bypass surfing restrictions just to access blocked websites and restricted services while at work or at school. Some of these proxy servers do not work well, it will just give us a very slow internet connection.

It is time to end all these sufferings. We do not need to endure the slow internet connection if we can make our own computer system to act as our proxy server. In this tutorial I am going to show how to use your internet from home to access blocked websites or networking sites while at work or some other places, most especially if these services are blocked by their firewall.

Here are what we need:
1. PuTTY application.
2. Firefox Web Browser.
3. SSH access to your computer at home ( preferably  LINUX system)

Procedures:
At Home,
1. Setup your own LINUX system at Home.
2. Install/configure your SSH server in your LINUX system.
At Work,
1Install Putty SSH application in your system.
2. Access your SSH server by using PuTTY application.

3. In the left-hand menu, click on SSH. In Protocol options, tick “enable compression” and set your preferred SSH version to “2“.

4. Now expand the “SSH” menu and select the “Tunnels” sub-menu. In the “Source port” field, type in a source port. Here still I am using 22 but you can use anything. Then select “Dynamic” as “Destination” and click the “Add” button.

5. Now, go back to the “Session” tab at the top of the menu, tick on the new connection name (My SSH Proxy) and click on the “Save” button. Now, you are done with PuTTY configuration you can now login to your SSH server.

6. In your Firefox browser setup your proxy server. Go to Tools > Options, then click the Advanced icon  and select the Network tab then click on the Settings. On this dialog click the Manual proxy configuration  button, then put the address 127.0.0.1 in the SOCKS Host field. In the Port field enter the port you used when configuring your SSH tunnel with Putty.

You can now browse internet using your Firefox browser. You can visit www.whatismyip.com to check which IP address firefox is showing.

Kudos to www.dotcomunderground.com for sharing this very nice tutorial.

How to Fix CentOS Error: Yum Update Error and Cannot Ping Google.com

CentOS is one of the nicest operating system for web server nowadays. Sometimes after installing this software and when we tried running yum update  we got:
Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrorlist.centos.org/?release=6&arch=i386&repo=oserror was 14: PYCURL ERROR 6 - "" Error: Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: base

Another error is when we ping google.com or any domain, we got:

Destination Host Unreachable or unknown host error

Here are some of the solutions of these problem:

    1. Try adding these entries to /etc/resolv.conf:
    nameserver 8.8.8.8
    nameserver 8.8.4.4

    2. Check your firewall settings
Try to disable iptables and run the yum update command. If it's working then it might be that your outbound DNS is not working so it cannot resolve names to IP addresses. To fix that you will need to open or allow DNS port (53) in your firewall.

Procedures on How to Maintain Computer System and Network

Maintaining computer system and network increases efficiency and save you the hassle and expense associated with major repairs. However, it is essential to understand how to schedule maintenance plans and implement it accordingly, to reap the benefits. By learning when maintenance is practical and developing a scheduling strategy, you can set up maintenance strategies that are beneficial to your computer system and network.

The following are the procedures on how to maintain computer system and networks:

    1. Create an equipment maintenance schedule.
In order to perform the maintenance of your computer efficiently, a maintenance schedule is made to guide the personnel in the proper maintenance procedure. This will help them remember the maintenance task that needs to be done in order to improve the functionality of the computer system and networks.

    2. Create a maintenance checklist.
To determine if the maintenance program is implemented according to what is planned, an assessment must be done. The result of the assessment will then be recorded and recorded to the proper authorities for the immediate action.

The assessment is through regular inspections which assure that the maintenance activities are done on the date and time it was planned and that the performance levels adhered to the defined standard.

    Below is a sample
Maintenance Inspection Checklist.  This checklist will confirm if the maintenance activities have been performed in order to prolong the life of this particular equipment. The inspection items are stated in a question form as these serve as the criteria or standards of maintenance.

    MAINTENANCE INSPECTION CHECKLIST
    Equipment Type
    PERSONAL COMPUTER
    Property Code
    PC001
    Location
    Practical Work Area
    YES
    NO
    INSPECTION ITEMS

    1. Do the stability of the male plug and other power connections checked regularly?

    2. Is the machine regularly cleaned?

    3. Is the monitor checked and cleaned regularly?

    4. Are the peripherals cleaned and checked regularly?

    5. Is the hard disk checked and cleaned regularly?

    6. Are the applications regularly updated?

    7. Do the files back up done regularly?

    4. Perform the computer maintenance task regularly.
Just knowing all the basics of computer maintenance task schedule clearly will not do any good. We should find time to apply all of them regularly and frequently. Let's make the computer maintenance activities a regular practice, so that we always have a fine tuned computer with a good performance.

After Effects Error: failed to parse transmap file

Everytime I tried opening Adobe After Effects, this error is kept on popping up..

After Effects error: failed to parse transmap file

I can't open any files nor create a new composition because of this message! I googled the solution  and some says that it has something to do with fonts. I tried to delete all those new installed font but it didn't solve the problem.

After searching the answer, I fount this solution from one of the forum sites I've visited. Glad to say it works!

    • Find your AfterFX9.ini. By default it should be located in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Adobe\After Effects\8.0
    • Open it in the text editor of your choice. By default this will be Notepad. Alternate tools could be SciTe or Textpad. Do not use office programs like Word for this.
    • In the [System DLL Fragmentation Workaround] section, change Enable Workaround=1 to Enable Workaround=0.
    • Choose File >> Save.

    How to Access Blocked Websites

This is the latest and easiest way to access blocked content online, secures your web sessions, and allows you to surf anonymously with complete privacy. In my previous post, How to Unblock Facebok and other Blocked Websites, I was able to show you how to access blocked websites through vpn connection, unfortunately freeopenvpn.com has been shutdown. Since then, I really thought that accessing blocked sites is second to impossible and if possible it is very vulnerable to any security threats.

Upon browsing in the internet, I found  vpnforwindows.com which works like freeopenvpn but it is much easier to use. You are just going to download the application from this link, install it and BOOOM! gain uncensored access to your favorite content.

Here are the Advantages of Hotspot Shield VPN for Windows

    • Network connections at public Wi-Fi hotspots are normally unencrypted. Therefore, your data online is not secure and can be easily intercepted by snoopers. Such hotspots include hotels, airports, corporate offices, and schools. Hotspot Shield VPN secures your Windows device using HTTPS encryption to encrypt your network traffic and secure your personal data from hackers.
    • Hotspot Shield VPN for Windows protects your IP address from snoopers and allows you to browse the internet in complete privacy. It hides your IP address and allows you to access websites, chat with friends, download, and shop online from a United States IP address.
    • You can unblock Facebook, YouTube, Gmail and other websites on your school and office computers. It allows you to bypass internet filters to give you uncensored access to all your favorite websites.
    • Since it secures your IP address, you are able to browse the internet in complete anonymity away from the eyes of web spies.
    • It detects and blocks millions of malware, phishing, and spam sites from infecting your Windows device.
    • Hotspot Shield VPN for Windows is available in a Free version and an Elite version, which offers a premium level of internet security and privacy.
What are you waiting for? Get freedom, security and privacy while browsing your favorites restricted sites like facebook.
