The DO’s and DON’Ts in Maintaining Computer Systems and Network

Computer maintenance is a work that is done regularly to keep the equipment in a good condition and working order. This task needs proper planning and safety precautions to avoid risk and accidents as well as to avoid damage of equipments.
Here is some good advice for things you should and shouldn’t do when maintaining computer system and network.
  • Don’t open the PC’s case unless you first turn off and unplug the power cord.
  • Don’t run the Defrag utility on an SSD, a media card, or a thumb drive.
  • Don’t download unknown software from the Internet.
  • Don’t use excessive force if things don’t quite slip into place.
  • Don’t touch the IC’s and hold the components by the edges when repairing computer.
  • Do use anti-virus software and keep it up to date.
  • Do use personal protective equipment in accordance with organization’s OHS procedures and practices.
  • Do always discharge yourself before touching any part of the computer.
  • Do wear rubber sole shoes when standing on the ground or in a concrete floor.
  • Do always power off and unplug the computer before working on it.
  • Do replace only fuses with those proper rating.
  • Do read and follow instructions on the manual carefully.
