Why Filipinos are Happy People

Philippines is not a rich country even it is rich with natural resources. Some of the roads on its highway are filled with pot holes, streets are congested, public vehicles such as jeepney are everywhere, street children roaming around the streets, beggars exploring garbage bins, and poor families struggling to survive under the bridge. The whole thing gives the impression that this country is not rich and people are poor. But, why Filipinos are happy people?

I am a Filipino and I know why we are happy. The following are some of the reasons why we Filipinos are happy people:

1. We are happy because of our faith.
We look to the brighter side of life even though there are so many problems around us. We believe in God, We believe that He will always guide and find the way for us. That's the characteristic of our faith. Most of the Filipino people are dependent to God. That trait makes us a positive thinkers.

2. Cheerfulness is part of our culture.
We are innately happy people. A typhoon victims wave and smile while a newscaster is reporting in front of a camera. So many children don't even have toys, but they're happy making games with a cans, chalk, rocks, slippers, and anything else they find. In spite of having difficulties we tend to smile and be happy. That's the nature of Filipino people.

3. We are satisfied of what we have.
Although part of human nature to want more, we Filipinos, are carefree people. Despite of having a small and not enough income, most Filipinos are happy of having a job, having a meals on the table, and having a family around them.

This kind of characteristic is often times criticized by many Filipinos abroad to be a characteristic of a lazy Pinoy, being contented of having a few and not wanting to have more. This characteristic is seldom to be seen from Filipinos abroad. Most OFW are the kind of Filipinos who have dreams and ambitions in life.

4. We love celebrations.
We love to celebrate little success in life, we love to celebrate family, we love to celebrate love, We love to celebrate birthday, wedding anniversary, baptism and even death anniversary. We celebrate any special moment in life by just throwing off small parties or by eating out in fast food centers no matter how small it is.

5. Filipinos are happy-go-lucky people.
Despite all the hardships, we cherish every moment in life. We love to party, drink, eat, and go to other places. Some even play one-day millionaires, spending everything and saving nothing. Pretending to be what they are not.

6. Most Filipinos are not aware of national issues.
Some considered it as a state of blissful ignorance. Some Filipino do not care about national issues, even spent years tolerating the abuses of our corrupt presidents, the abuse of our corrupt government officials and political clan. Even today, if you happen to see status of teenagers on Facebook and other social networking sites, it is more about love rather than political and national issues. This reason might not true to some Filipino but we cannot deny that this reason exist. It exist because in can be seen in the true picture of our life.

Above are some of the reasons why Filipinos are happy people. As a Filipino myself, I know Filipinos has so many reasons to be happy because that's what we are. We always find ways to smile in spite of the hardship that we have. Some reasons might not be pleasing for everyone. But, there is nothing wrong to be happy. There are things in life that money could not buy, one of which is happiness. No amount of money can buy true peace and true happiness. Stay happy! (*_^)
