How to Make your Computer Faster

There could be so many ways of improving PC performance or to make your computer faster, but there are also a number of reasons why your system is running slowly after a few months of using it. In order for you to determine how to make your computer faster, you must try to determine the nature of the slowness and what factors are causing it.

The following are the helpful procedures on how to make your computer faster.

1. Get rid of virus and spyware.
A computer that suddenly becomes slow may have a virus or spyware program robbing its resources. Spyware is known to change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, different home pages, and/or loss of Internet or functionality of other programs.
How to do it?..
One way to make your computer faster is to get rid of virus and spyware. To do this, we should run a virus scan and spyware sweep regularly. In my case, I am using AVIRA and MALWAREBYTES.

2. Always avoid start-up overload.
Some programs like yahoo messenger install themselves to start automatically when you start up the computer. These programs can make the computer working too hard during start up, no wonder why the system takes more time during this process. so, we must remove this kind of programs during start-up.
How to do it?..
To fix this problem, just click on Start > Run, type ‘msconfig’ and go to the ‘Startup’ tab. You’ll be presented with a check list of all the programs that automatically runs every time our computer boots. Deselect these programs and reboot the system. After reboot and Windows tells you about the changes, just uncheck the notification box then click Ok so it won’t bother you again.

3. Consider adding more RAM.
The computer's live and temporary memory is called RAM memory. The more you have it, the better. All the programs that are running actively are using RAM memory to run in that is why lack of RAM will slow down your system dramatically.
How to do it?..
The easiest way of improving computer performance is to upgrade the RAM, so I would suggest bumping up the memory to at least 2 gigabyte at a bare minimum, or 4 gigabytes of memory if the motherboard and your finances allow for it.

4. Clean disk drive regularly.
The disk drive is the storage place for files and software on your computer, including Windows itself. If the hard drive gets to be filled with many files, it can slow down the computer. The system drive needs to be at least 10% free space on the hard drive for Windows to use for its paging operations.
How to do it?..
Increase the free space by deleting files.
If you have a lot of documents, pictures, music, etc. burn them to CDs for backup so that you can then delete them from your hard drive to free up space.
Use the disk cleanup utility. Click and run the cleanup utility, and Windows will find and remove all of your disposable files--such as cached temporary Internet files and files in the Recycle Bin.
Remove the Useless Programs. Use the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel to uninstall any software that you don't use and systematically check the programs folder and delete all old folders of the programs that you have uninstalled.

5. Clean the windows registry.
The computer's registry can become corrupted by spyware and viruses. In addition, with continually installing and removing software, not all programs will remove themselves cleanly and completely from the registry. This is why cleaning the registry is one way of improving PC performance.
How to do it?..
Manually cleaning the registry by using the windows registry editor.
To manually clean your registry using the Windows Registry Editor, first create a backup of the registry, and then remove unnecessary files:
  • On the desktop, click the Start button on the left bottom corner of the taskbar
  • Click Run
  • Type regedit in the new Run window. Click OK
  • At the top of the window, click File on the menu toolbar
  • Go down and select Export
  • Type a name for the backup file, and click Save
  • Go to the left side of the registry editor window and view how your computer is configured.
  • Click on the plus sign to expand a section of the registry editor and delete the unnecessary registry files in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE." This area is used to make registry changes to hardware and software.
Use a registry cleaning software.
There are so many free registry cleaning software available in the web today, some are effective and some are not. Try to use RegScrubXP, It doesn't have the speediest scan time, but this Registry cleaning tool looks good, performs well, and of the best I have tested.

I hope that this can help you on how to make your computer faster.
